The Yew Tree

The spinning is beginning
Four threads entwining
The spun thread is running
Into my life.
Weaver Girl spin my thread
Black, white, green, and red
Weaver Girl weave my thread
Into your web.

The waters they are rising
Out of the Underworld
The waters they are rising
Out of the hills.
Red Well and White Well
Mingle your waters
Pouring your blessing
Over the land.

The tree it is growing
Up to the heavens
The tree many-rooted
Touching the deep.
Life-tree grow in our hearts
Root, branch, leaf and bark:
Stars in your branches
Make day of the dark.

The wild winds are blowing
Where are they going?
The wild winds are blowing
Out of the West.
Wild Hunter ride with me
Over the starry sea
Wild Hunter ride with me
Into the night.

And underneath the Tor
Two dragons writhing
Red and white for life and death
Waters of the Grail.
Gwynn ap Nudd beside me
Arthur within me
Gwynn ap Nudd guide me
Down to the source.

The Cauldron it is simmering
Simmering and shimmering
The Cauldron of changes,
Death and rebirth.
Cerridwen transform me
In your magic cauldron
Cerridwen transform me
Shifting my shape.

I wrote this song for our handfasting at the Chalice Well, Glastonbury (UK). It refers to many of the legends surrounding the Chalice Well and Glastonbury Tor. It is "copyleft" - that is, you are welcome to use it as long as you acknowledge that I wrote it. I'm not sure who wrote the tune of "The River it is flowing" but it's a lovely tune, which allegedly originated as a Native American chant. I lifted lines 19, 23 and 24 from Hertha by Algernon Swinburne (one of my favourite poems).
